'I am Gerry Kennedy aged 61 a retired police officer. I first met Ben Hall at the gym in December 2008 where he was working as a personal trainer.

 

I was immediately impressed with his pro-activity and enthusiasm when dealing with member's  fitness goals. At the time I was overweight at 91 kg with a body fat percentage of 30%. A BUPA medical report had recommended that my body fat and weight ranges be reduced to 16 to 20% and 76 to 80kg respectively. My blood pressure was raised to 152/95 a deep concern of mine. ( optimum blood pressure is 120/80, high blood pressure can lead to cardiac arrest, stroke and other associated disease).

 

On 26th January 2009 I signed on as one of Ben’s clients and informed him that I wanted to reduce my weight to 80kg by mid June. I was unsure at first whether I would be able to achieve this, as attempts over thirty years to lose appreciable weight had failed. Ben set me a fitness management programme incorporating high intensity exercise and nutrition guidance.

On 26th May 2009 exactly four months from the start of the programme and well ahead of schedule, I had achieved the following:

     

  • Weight reduced to 76 kg. (from 14 stone 5lbs down to 12 stone)
  • Body fat percentage down to 22.17%
  • Cholesterol reduced from 6.6 mmol/l to 5.6mmol/l
  • Increased cardiovascular fitness and an improvement in upper body strength.
  • Blood pressure reduced to 128/80 (well within the normal range).
  • BMI (body mass index) reduced from 30 to 23.94 in the middle of the desirable range.
  • Combined loss from around my waist, chest and hips of 40cm's.
  • Increased self image and improved confidence, so I can now take my shirt off to do my gardening!

Hi I'm Tommy Searle, I'm a 21 year old carpenter. I met Ben when I was looking at some sports supplements at the gym. Ben approached me and asked what my goals were and what I was looking to achieve. He asked if I had 5 minutes to have a chat about training and nutrition. Straight away I could tell Ben knew what he was talking about, he was confident and very professional.

I've always been relatively fit but never seemed to get the results I wanted no matter how hard I trained! I was going on holiday in 1 month so wanted to have a fast action plan. Ben gave me some intense but immensely fun training, a great meal guide (not a diet) I seemed to be eating more than I normally did but the right things. Throughout 3 weeks Ben showed me lots of different training techniques, there was lots of variety to his training indoors and we did sessions outdoors which was great!

In the 3 weeks I was very impressed with my results:

 

Body composition

 

  • Weight reduced from 87.6 to 86kg (¾ of a stone)
  • Body fat reduced 20.4 to 19.2
  • Waist loss 4.5cms
  • Hip loss 107cm to 104cm
  • BMI drop from 25.9 to 25.4

 

Physical tests

 

  • 5 min run distance increased by 200m
  • Press ups increase from 27 to 34.
  • Lat pull down (machine) strength increase from 55kg x 7 repetitions to 55kg x 15 repetitions.

 

The main thing for me though was my appearance in the mirror, I felt and definitely looked more muscular and more defined(toned) which a few people told me which is great! I felt a lot stronger and generally fitter! Which was proven because on our final session we did the same fitness assessments I had previously done 3 weeks earlier. I ran a fair distance longer in the same amount of time, I lifted heavier weights and more repetitions and more press-ups etc.

I am going travelling for 3 months now but I am definitely going to call Ben when I get back and arrange a long term fitness programme, if I can achieve these goals in 3 weeks that I have been trying to achieve in 3 years then I am very positive at what a long term programme would do for me!
